JOY SCOTT, MBA, is the principal of Scott Public Relations. She brings 30 years of experience in public relations on behalf of established and emerging companies. Since launching Scott Public Relations in 1987, she has led the company to a leadership position in the public relations profession serving the business-to-business communication needs of companies in healthcare public relations, insurance public relations and technology public relations, from Fortune 500 firms to start-ups. Prior to founding the agency, Scott spent 12 years as a public relations executive in the healthcare industry. In the 1980s, she launched the first consumer marketing program for the Western Division of AMI, Inc., a Fortune 500 company. She also designed the first marketing plan for the largest college in Arizona, and engineered a news-making strategic acquisition for the Visiting Nurses Association, the West's largest home health company. Scott also served as Director of Communications for the Arizona Hospital Association. There, she handled media relations during the successful 1982-84 industry opposition campaign against a state initiative to regulate hospital costs, for which she organized a statewide public information campaign on the issue of cost containment. A graduate of UCLA's prestigious executive MBA program, Scott combines her marketing skills with expertise in business and management to provide a strategic approach to programs that directly impact a company's bottom line. She is and has been active in a number of professional associations, including the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and has served on the Boards of the Arizona Society for Hospital Public Relations, CineWomen, and the Alumni Association of UCLA’s Executive MBA program. Scott has written a number of articles for industry publications such as California Broker, Continuing Care, Health Insurance Underwriter, Nursing Home, Home Health Products, Pharmaceutical Executive and Capitation Management Report. Currently, she regularly contributes articles on healthcare marketing and public relations to Healthleaders.com, the popular daily newsletter for the health care industry. Scott has her MBA from the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management. She also earned an MA in Psychology and a BA magna cum laude from Arizona State University. |
